The Legacy Award - A Celebration of Ubuntu and Heritage

History and Purpose

There is an African phrase and concept called ubuntu. The specific translation is not precise; however, in general, ubuntu can mean "humanity towards others," "I am because we are," and "I am what I am because of what we all are."

The Mitchell Law Group PC LEGACY AWARD was created to contribute to ubuntu and the celebration and the honoring of the African American heritage of "always finding a way" and the unquestionable ability of African Americans to forge ahead despite known and unknown obstacles, setbacks and disappointments. The award is in its infancy, however, we believe that there is no such thing as a small effort when it comes to uniting to help and encourage African American youth and our community to excel.

Each year, an organization or individuals are selected as the recipients of The Mitchell Law Group, PC Legacy Award based on their commitment to change and community service. By selecting a recipient, we are able to extend our community, fundraising and public relations efforts to support the mission and purpose of the recipient agency or individuals.

Selection of the Award Statue

We selected this particular award for The Mitchell Law Group, PC Legacy Award because it is a symbol of inspiration and movement. The statue is a human form emerging from a mass of unsculptured crystal. The movement in the statue represents the transformation of vision into reality and captures our philosophy that though artistic talent, hard work, community, commitment and focus, we have the skills as African Americans to transform our lives and those of our communities.

"I am what I am because of what we all are."

2007 Legacy Award Recipients

2007 Program Support

In 2007, we are pleased to expand our circle of sponsors with the newly formed Visioning Realities, Inc entertainment and marketing company. VRI is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Mitchell Law Group, PC. VRI's community service division is called The Campaign 4 Hope™ (C4HOPE™). C4HOPE™ is a community involvement project initiated by VRI to spotlight African American grass roots organizations who, powered by hope, take action to create change on important social issues. The ultimate goal is to work with others to encourage individuals to take action for change on an important issue in their lives. We partner with businesses and non-profits to support the concept of INDIVIDUALS and COMMUNITIES taking action for improving their own communities. C4HOPE™ is not a non-profit, but will support non-profits through monetary contributions or other forms of support, including marketing, fundraising efforts and public relations initiatives.

It is our plan to expand our efforts this year in new and different ways. We intend to present the award on August 2, 2007 in Atlanta GA. as part of the conclusion of our week-long launch and celebration of a new entertainment product. Because the focus of the week's activity is the celebration of "living well," it is appropriate to conclude the week with a recognition and honoring of those that live well by giving back to our community through time, money and commitment.
